If you are not afraid of bringing
your small single or twin props favourite aircraft to high altitude airstrip,
then I have got something new for you: ANDES MOUNTAINS FLIGHTS.
Be aware that in this dangerous
area you cannot fly straight over the mountains to reach your objective just
letting the GPS in charge of the navigation. In most cases these peaks are much
too high for your piston engine and your unpressurized cockpit. So you will
have to study the map and plan carefully you way through valleys to get to your
destination airport. That is real VFR flying!
Furthermore, the weather can be
very bad over the Andes range. Storm, strong wind, snow, heavy rain or fog are
not unusual conditions. And never forget that the seasons are the different in
the southern hemisphere (opposite)…
I invite you to discover beautiful
places hidden in your flight simulator! In the schedule table below, you will
find a very good selection of rather short hops ranging from 20-30 minutes to
1.5 hour. Of course you can choose any flight individually. But for those who
wish to get a better knowledge of all the Western part of South America and the
Andes range, I have planned a schedule which will allow you to visit all the
Andes range from Colombia down to the Magellan strait (Punta Arena – Chile).

The Andes are the world's
longest continental mountain range. It is a continuous chain of highland along
the western coast of South America. The range is over 7,000 km
(4,300 mi) long, 200 km (120 mi) to 700 km (430 mi)
wide (widest between 18° to 20°S latitude), and of an average height of about
4,000 m (13,000 ft).
Over its length the Andean range
is at several locations split into several ranges, often two great ranges,
named Cordillera Oriental and the Cordillera Occidental, often separated by an
intermediate depression. The Andes mountains extend over seven countries:
Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, some of
which are known as Andean States.
The Andes mountain range is the
highest mountain range outside Asia. The highest peak, Aconcagua, rises to
6,962 m (22,841 ft) above sea level. The summit of Mount Chimborazo
in the Ecuadorean Andes is the point on the Earth's surface most distant from
its centre, because of the equatorial bulge.
