| CAT 1 AIRCRAFTS TRANSATLANTIC TOUR - FOR PILOTS FROM RANK 1 This
is an entirely new concept which will give to all SPA pilot, whichever
their rank, the opportunity to fly interesting long distance training
flights using exclusively category one aircrafts (i.e. Saab 340). The
idea is to provide an attractive challenge as a working out for IFR
navigation,
In this tour you know the departure and arrival ICAO of each leg and from this basic information you build your own flight-plan. Of course you can use all the tools and instruments available in your flight simulator. You could start the easy way, using the built in GPS. But if you are more inquisitive, you can go step by step all along the way, so as to become a real specialist of VOR, NDB, ILS, SID & STAR and other such “goodies”. Loading your aircraft accordingly to the number of passengers, the freight load, the flight distance and duration; carrying the right amount of fuel; taking care of the wind strength and direction to estimate the flight time and close attention to the weather all along the route: these are all critical issues to be considered. Take your time to study all the documents about navigation available on the SPA web site when your aircraft is flying high in the sky for a long time to destination with the autopilot on. Learn gently at your own pace. For all of us it takes or took time and practice (... and lots of errors!). You will also have the opportunity to go “transatlantic” with a category one aircraft. Yes, this is possible using the Northern route via Labrador, Greenland and Iceland to cross the ocean. Have fun, learn something, and put your questions on the forum or direct them to your hub manager! By the way, do not forget that all along this great tour you will accumulate a lot of flight hours to boost your career with SPA... |
