Vatsim Flight

Anonymous Posted: 13.10.2010, 23:26
Unregistered User Well i had my first VATSIM controlled landing tonight and it was a total disaster. I was very nervous and had a rough time. I lost control of my aircraft and never seemed to recover from that.

I do want to point out that the Tower was controlled by one of our own, YETIV8R. He was very helpful and most of all patient with me. He probably kept me from crashing, which i sort of did on the landing, hitting to hard and busting my left wheel.

I was very nervous and felt uncomfortable the entire night, but one thing is for sure, i will keep at it until I get better, but any help and advise would be nice.

I have made this same landing a bunch without being on Vatsim; am i alone or has anyone else had this kind of bad start?
:-?

8-) This scenereo is very familiar to me. But, a great thing about simulators is that, without killing yourself, you can learn from your mistakes and try again.

I would suggest that you get yourself a great book on how to fly IFR and start from there. That way you might learn how to get yourself organized and prepared. And, of course, having a friendly and helpful controller really makes it a lot better experience.

Dan,

It was pleasure to see you online last night. :)

I was also in a position that I did not know what to do with you. Usually, when there is approach available they would vector you to the runway and hand it off to the tower. But last night, it was just the tower. If that's the case, you line up yourself and request to land. When you contacted me you were south of rwy 35 that's why I thought you were lining up for rwy 35.

I would highly recommend proper flight planning as well.
Check out http://www.simroutes.com [24] and flightaware.com [25] for flight plans.

Also, for your information you can not cruise at 18000. :)

Please do not hesitate to contact me and post your questions here in the forum.

Looking forward to see you again.

Cheers,
Naresh

Hello Dan,

No, you are not the only one having these bad experiences with VATSIM.

I fly on VATSIM all the time but I do remember how I felt the first time :-)

In order to help pilots get their feet wet on VATSIM I created a web page just for that.
It is all you need to know how to fly on VATSIM presented in the easiest way I could.
When you start reading official VATSIM documents, there is so much that just want to give up immediately.
I am not saying it is not a valuable material, the opposite, there are tons of things to learn.
Just because of the volume of it many people just quit before even trying.

Check the link below and I hope you will like what you see ;-)
My page is based on X-Plane setup but VATSIM related info applies to any simulator.
Let me know what do you think.

Andrzej

Unregistered User Hi Naresh,

Thank you for kind words.

As a time goes by , maybe we can fly more on VATSIM together.

VFR flights are perfectly fine on VATSIM.

Later.

Andrzej

Unregistered User I felt exactly like you in my first flight by VATSIM
What I'm doing is to take off from controlled airports and landing at airports without traffic control.
So I keep listening to other pilots and getting used to the procedures and phonetic.
