READ OTHER PIREPS

Anonymous Posted: 11.01.2011, 18:04
Unregistered User Is it possible to read recent pireps submitted by other pilots or have I missed this? Their comments concerning their flights could be interesting. In any event it would be a way to see what other pilots are doing. Just a thought.

I do not feel that it is reasonable to make public PIREP content on the web site-
I consider that PIREP should stay a private communication between pilots and hub managers. Yours and everybody’s privacy should be preserved and, as far as I am concerned, I refuse to diffuse such information.
I guess (hope) that the other hub managers and generally speaking SPA management will approve my standpoint... and also that other SPA pilots will agree with me.
As a matter of fact, your demand was not stupid and certainly worthy of note. But I hope that you understand and accept my negative answer.
Kind regards

To all SPA pilots:
If you wish you can make public your feelings and comments about your flight's experience in the forum... should you wish to share your experience.

The only reason I can think of to withhold this information would be cheating by pilots (posting a flight using information from other pilots records without actually flying the flight). Other than that, there isn't any type of private information in there that could do damage to any of our pilots. I have to say that I don't see the benefit in making this info available to the rest of our pilots. I think it's best to just leave that information in the National Archives next to the Ark of the Covenant... ;-)

I read a lot of PIREPs. Very few of them contain much of interest. They relate flight number, aircraft (sometimes), origin and destination, fuel consumption, weather (sometimes) and very little else. I think that narratives about our flights can be interesting, particularly when something unusual happens (try actually flying one of the IAPs at MMMX), but the forum is the place for these accounts, there isn't space in a PIREP.

I have another suggestion for your PIREP. When you fill out the comment section, give yourself a grade on your performance. If you get less than an "A" then figure out what went wrong and learn how to avoid the problem the next time you fly. 8-)

A final word about this PIREP's public submission question:
Do you realise that last year there were more than 4'500 PIREP transmitted to the three hub managers (including special ops).
Does anyone think that we have enough spare time (and are so stupid...) to sort, order and dispatch all these documents.
No thank you ! I think that I have more usefull and interesting tasks to perform for our small VA.

Unregistered User Certainly, if the pirep system would have to be sorted manually then the extra effort is not worth it and the pireps should be left in the archives as has been mentioned. Some systems can display pireps automatically so no one has to make the unwise decision to sort, order, and dispatch all these documents. As I mentioned in my original post, this was only a thought and it was not an attempt to push anyone's hot button. The consensus seems clear enouigh and I do appreciate the feedback.
