A brave pilot sacrificed his own life when he steered his World War II Spitfire away from crowds of people at an airshow, an inquest has heard. Hero Martin Sargeant, 56, got into trouble when the engine of his plane started to cut out in mid-air during an air show in Rouens, northern France. But the dad-of-three, from Goudhurst in Kent, was forced to make a last minute diversion when he realised the landing strip that was supposed to be kept clear for emergencies was full of people watching the aerobatics display.
Ryanair, Europe’s largest low fares airline, today (31st May) announced the purchase of 27 more Boeing 737-800s valued at $1.9bn. This brings Ryanair’s total firm orders for B737-800s to 308 and total fleet size (including planned disposals) to 262 by 2012.
CINCINNATI: During today’s introduction of a new aircraft paint scheme, Comair and Delta Air Lines executives unveiled another surprise – Comair has been awarded 14 Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft. The planes will be the first in the regional carrier’s fleet to include a first-class cabin and will replace 14 of Comair’s CRJ-100 50-seat aircraft.
At a press conference following the release of its fourth-quarter results, Air France-KLM said it has also ordered 30 more A320 aircraft from Airbus - 19 of which will replace existing planes - and has converted two of its five options on further A380 aircraft into orders.
