Good luck on this one Chili! I ended up in the trees like the actual flight when I tried to do it with weather. Even after going to real time weather which was favorable, I had trouble finding the airport during circling. I'm going to have fun trying this one in different conditions...perhaps next time just trying it on a clear night.
Also, the Peace River VOR is not in range 90 miles out which is where High Prairie is located. So you can't use that for DME approach. I haven't checked for other VOR that's reachable while tracking the High Prairie NDB that will give a triangulation to better pinpoint High Prairie.
You might also try flying it with the current RNAV approach in IFR weather.
Anyway, it certainly offers pilots a challenge.
Happy flying,
John

Thanks for the tips John, I did a quick dry run last night from CZHP, to check out the airport in clear condition , I see exactly what you mean its going to be a nice challenge flight. I'm going to set up the SIM tonight to try a real run at it, and will see if I can pick up another VOR also and will let you know.
Thanks John.

I just completed the Wapiti Flight 402, Chili.. It`s going to be a white-knuckle flight.
I did a test flight before using the SPAACARS. It`s at night, in the snow or in a rainstorm, you can`t see a thing until you descend and maybe you`ll get lucky and see something. If you use the coordinate and are lucky to have DME with it, you will make it ok. My idea was to stay left of the mountain and when I picked up the High Prairie NDB and the needle started to move right, start making your right turn towards the airport. Peace River will be a piece of cake. Good luck.

Hi Larry, thanks for the post.. Yes totally agree with both of you and John's assessment:
I did a dry run the other day ay Night but with clear skies. Set cruising altitude at 8500 and this was the way I routed my flight.
BTW, I was flying the King Air 350, no GPS one ADF and 1 VOR.
Departure: CYEG/RWY 20
After departure I tracked the Whitecourt VOR 112.5 and tune my ADF to Swan Hill NDB 251. Once I established the Whitecourt VOR 112.5, I flew that track until the Swan Hill NDB 251 activated, at the point I intercepted it and flew to it, once over the Swan Hill NDB 251, I tuned into the Peace River VOR 117.2 and tracked 305 course also tune the High Prairie NDB 406.
John was correct the Peace River VOR 117.2 is not 90 miles from High Prairie airport, I kept tracking the 305 course until I was able to pick up the High Prairie NDB 406, through all this I was descending about 350 fpm and leveled off at 4500.
Once I was over the High Prairie NDB 406, I did a slow right descent to 3700.. and had to circle a few times to pick up the airport, once I did I did a circle to land and did the 04 RNAV approach.
The other leg was uneventful in clear weather..
Yes I agree even in clear weather at night was a bit challenging.. Going to do a real run later this week...This one is really fun..
Thank you guys..Happy Flying.
